SPOILERS on NXT Women’s Championship Match at Takeover: Houston

The final match of the Mae Young Classic tournament saw Japanese sensation Kairi Sane defeat Shayna Baszler to win the tournament. While the company did not put the NXT Women’s Championship on Sane, as some reports falsely claimed that they would, it was later revealed that Kairi’s win in the tournament managed to nag her a spot in a future match for the vacant title at NXT Takeover: Houston. The title was previously held by Asuka who recently surrendered the title after holding it for over 500 days. It appears that the list of contenders who could hold the title next has been narrowed down to Kairi Sane and just three other women.
As mentioned previously, Pro Wrestling Sheet’s James McKenna reported that the plan is to have the vacant title be on the line in a multi-women match at Takeover. The Wrestling Observer later clarified that it would be a Fatal 4-Way match, and yesterday’s NXT television tapings from Full Sail University seemed to confirm that the match type is indeed accurate. At NXT Takeover: Houston, we now know that it will be Kairi Sane vs. Ember Moon vs. Peyton Royce to determine the new NXT Women’s Champion. Two out of the three remaining participants for the match were determined during last night’s television tapings for NXT, which will be aired on the WWE Network over the next few weeks.
One more participant is going to be joining the match, but the match to determine who gets the spot is not going to be taking place until the next round of NXT tapings on October 4th. Royce defeated Nikki Cross and Liv Morgan in order to earn her spot. Mae Young Classic competitor Taynara Conti distracted Nikki, which allowed Royce to get the win. It is being said that Conti seems to have joined Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly’s stable in NXT as well. Meanwhile, Ember Moon defeated Sonya Deville and Ruby Riot to earn her spot in the match. Even though she has already been announced for the Takeover match, Kairi Sane defeated Aliyah during the tapings.
