11 World Leaders And Their Equally Famous Pets

They are the most popular members within any family. And if they are part of a famous family, chances are they have a huge fan following of their own. Meet the famous pets of our time. Some even have their own fan clubs and social media profiles that offer a unique perspective of their owner’s lives. Here are 11 pets that call the shots and keep even world leaders on their toes.

1. Bo and Sunny

Barack Obama’s dogs are quite world famous. The former first dogs are cute as buttons – a fact that made headlines numerous times during Obama’s presidency. The Portuguese water dogs had a strict schedule, just like the ex-President, as everybody wanted to take pictures with them. Michelle Obama literally had to approve their public appearances!

2. Verni, Yume and Buffy

Vladmir Putin’s reputation as a dog lover precedes him. He currently has three dogs – an Alabai named Verni, an Akita named Yume, and a Bulgarian shepherd named Buffy. His pets live with him at his residence in Moscow. These dogs were gifts to Putin who is committed to the cause of protecting endangered Russian species. And they have hogged the limelight alongside their master who publicly shows his love for them.

Pidi was introduced to the world by Rahul Gandhi on Twitter. The Congress Vice President credited his energetic terrier dog for being the inspiration behind his witty tweets – for which he is often trolled. Just like his master, Pidi too trended on Twitter after Gandhi shared a video of his pet doing several tricks.

    4. Kenzie

Last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Turdeau introduced Kenzie to the world. Justin Trudeau and his family had adopted the pet in April 2016. Trudeau’s family of five had no pets before they welcomed Kenzie home. The Portuguese water dog, however, has not been in the public eye like Obama’s pets. Maybe Kenzie is private and prefers to mull over issues of national importance.

    5. Candy, Vulcan, Willow, Holly

The Queen of England is a fan of corgis. She has owned over 30 dogs in her six-decade-long reign as the Queen. Currently she pets two corgis named Willow and Holly and two dorgis named Candy and Vulcan. Needless to say, the dogs live luxurious lives at the Palace. The Queen herself serves them meals and personally handles their housetraining.

    6. Nemo

French President Emmanuel Macron’s family adopted Nemo, a black Labrador-Griffon cross, from an animal rescue centre. Nemo is always on his toes when duty calls. He was there by the French President’s side when he greeted Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou. Most recently, Nemo also expressed his displeasure when he peed over the fireplace in the President’ office.

    7.  Rusty, Dusty and JoJo

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull runs a dog blog where he talks about his dogs. He has written posts in the voice of three different dogs – Roxy, JoJo, and Dusty the Kelpie. There isn’t a world leader more dedicated to dogs than Turnbull. His blog is a testament to that as the voices are honest and thought-provoking in equal measure.

    8. Stanley

Canada’s former Prime Minister, Stephen Harper named his cat Stanley after an online poll was held to choose a name for the feline. Harper is a well-known cat lover who has often compared his career to the mythology of cats, saying that those who prefer cats serve better. Stanley was often seen sharing space with Canada’s former premier in his office.

    10.  Lennu

Finland’s President, Sauli Niinisto’s dog Lennu shot to fame for his ridiculously happy face. The First Dog is perhaps more famous than his human. The five-year-old Boston terrier often accompanies his master at official events. Lennu may not be camera trained as he loves running around, distracting almost everyone present around him.

    11. Leo, Tiki, Tiger and Simba

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak has four cats – Leo, Kiki, Tiger and Simba. The cats are well pampered and often grace social media courtesy the minister. And the felines are quite ‘responsible’ too. Last year, while travelling to China, Razak said that his cats will happily look after his home while he was away.
