With the Supreme Court making a landmark move towards reviewing Section 377 in India, the LGBT community has hope that homosexual acts will be decriminalised in our country. It’s a step in the right direction and now, more than ever is the time to talk about the struggles the community has been facing. We’ve been failing to acknowledge and create a respectable space for the LGBT in our world; so much so, they are struggling to live freely in this otherwise independent world.

    We can’t even begin to understand the plight of the third gender. For them, leading a normal life is a challenge. How many times do they have to fill a form when there’s no ‘other’ option next to the gender section? How many times do we create jobs for people who don’t fit in either of the binary genders? How many times do we call people gay just by judging them on what they wear?

    To be honest, we are all a bunch of educated people who know the exact meaning of equality and though, we aren’t consciously hurting anyone’s sentiments, there are times when we just unintentionally do or say things without thinking twice.

    So, think before you say anything and stand in support of not just one or two people, but a whole community that’s fighting to be treated as equal even in the 21st century.
